SELmedia Introduces New Online Workshops

SELmedia announced today that it has introduced two new online workshops for educators, Dealing with Bullying and Peer Relations and Cyberbullying – What Educators Need to Know.  Today’s tight budgets make achieving educator professional development requirements more difficult than ever.  Delivering training online is budget-friendly, effective, and avoids the logistical challenges of assembling an entire faculty for a one-time event.

  • Dealing with Bullying and Peer Relations helps educators deal with bullying and identify social isolates (children who are rejected by their peers).  The workshop also explores the relationship between social skills and bullying.  Social isolates often have poor social skills.  As a result, they frequently are targeted by bullies or even become bullies themselves, and are at risk for multiple negative outcomes.   3-C ISD’s extensive research in this area has revealed clear direction on developing effective interventions and guidance on teaching social skills to these children.  Dr. Melissa DeRosier of 3-C ISD and Dr. Ron Anderson of SELmedia share this information and cover practical ways to identify social isolates and help them succeed in school.
  • Cyberbullying – What Educators Need to Know helps educators deal with cyberbullying and other forms of electronic violence.  New web based technologies have had a direct impact on the development of children’s ability to interact effectively with others.  Some developments are encouraging while others are clearly disturbing.  In this compelling and informative workshop you can expect to learn about online risks such as cyberbullying and online abuse.  You will learn about the importance of monitoring online behavior and practical things educators can do to help children who are affected by the various forms of electronic violence.  Dr. Ron Anderson, noted expert in the field of children’s social development works with a group of educators who are wrestling with this difficult issue.

Both workshops can be purchased by individual educators as well as by schools for use by the entire faculty.  Educators can take the course at their own pace from any computer connected to the Internet.  The workshops offer CEUs and are accessible for one year from purchase to allow easy refresher training and training of staff hired later in the year.
