"S.S.GRIN is very effective with identified socially at-risk kids. Based on pre/post tests, students reported fewer conflicts and teachers reported lower inappropriate interactions requiring administrative intervention."

Social-Emotional Learning

S.S.GRIN

The objective of S.S.GRIN groups is for children to learn and practice basic social skills such as communication, self-control, perspective taking, conflict management, and the initiation of activities. Group members learn to set goals and assess the consequences of their actions; build pro-social attitudes and character traits (respect, responsibility, perseverance, empathy); combat negative assumptions about themselves and others; and build coping skills to cope with stressful social situations (teasing, rejection, peer pressure). The group leaders work with the children to develop more appropriate methods by which to cope with these stressful social experiences.

"Storytelling is a very natural way to reach children. I watched children who spend time in my office and spend time in the main office-- who are often unable to focus -- be absolutely mesmerized and totally focused on the storyteller."
Claudia Bazemore, School Counselor, Brooks Elementary, Wake County, NC
