Parent Handouts
Parent Handouts review concepts learned throughout the sessions and provide a bridge for continued learning at home and in the community. There are a total of 40 parent handouts; 20 for parents of younger elementary students (ages 6-8) and 20 for parents of older elementary students (ages 8-12). Each version of the parent handouts covers the same information, but is tailored to fit age-appropriate needs of group member’s children. The Parent Handouts are also structured as a stand- alone resource; therefore they are appropriate for use outside the group setting. Either way, Parent Handouts provide parents with a jam-packed resource of information and skill building activities to enhance their ability to teach their child effective social skills. Your Parent Guide to S.S.GRIN kit includes one printed full-color copy of each of the 40 Parent Handouts. More are available for purchase at.
The first handout is an overview of the program, its goals, and methods for parents to use in working with their children. Each of the remaining 19 handouts focuses on a specific social skill or concept and provides:
- A detailed definition, including how that skill or concept impacts children’s social relations;
- One or more Featured Activities designed for parents and children to do together at home in order to practice and explore the skill or concept;
- Suggestions for each of the five Methods of Change that parents can use in working with their children to build the specific skill or concept.
