Below are a number of online resources for kids, adolescents, parents and the whole family. These sites contain a wealth of information that supplements the material covered in the S.S.GRIN program.
For Kids
4Kids.org - 4Kids.org is a team of educators, writers, artists, technology specialists, and students that produces a weekly newspaper article and maintains the website, whose vision is to pursue more effective ways of creating learning environments for all children through advancing technologies such as the Internet. This site contains online games helping children learning math, language arts, vocabulary, and thinking skills.
A game A day -Test your brain with a different thought puzzle every day. This site targets children and adults ages 9 and up. The website includes puzzles and games for many school subjects and encourages critical thinking and the development of problem solving skills. The site also provides students with a context in which to exercise learned skills, apply knowledge and generate curiosity.
Aunt Annie's Crafts -Offers arts and craft projects for children. Each project includes illustrated step-by-step instructions, patterns to print in a variety of designs, crafting tips, related Web links, and suggested book resources.
Blockcorner - Learn strategy as you use your creativity to build imaginative structures with on-line blocks. This game is for kids of all ages and can also be played on-line with friends.
Discovery Kids - This site includes of online games, puzzles, quizzes, and movie clips related to Discovery Channel shows.
eLibs.com - Create funny mad libs on this interactive site. Stimulate thinking and practice problem solving skills in a humorous way.
Funbrain – Math and strategy games divided by age and grade level with separate sites for children, teachers and parents. Site also contains academic quizzes to test your knowledge, comics, and web books.
Funschool - This site by the Kaboose Family Network, is very interactive for children and includes crafts, games, and quizzes. Includes separate sites for preschool children, elementary aged children, and teachers and parents.
Harpercollins for Kids - Harper Collins Publishers website for children features information on books, online books, games, and activities. It also has sites for parents and teachers with lesson plans and activities to accompany books. There is a separate link for teens.
Kidlink – Interactive site allows older children (10-15 years old) to chat with children from around the world and to learn basic life skills. Also has an accompanying teacher site with activities for life skills training. This site supports many different languages.
KidPub - Children or teachers can submit written stories to be published on the child-friendly website.
KidsCom.com – Find an e-pal or play games with children around the world. This site supports English, Spanish, French and German.
Global Show-n-Tell - A global show and tell site for children ages 0-17, to display artwork and interact with children from around the world.
Kidsdomain – This site, by the Kaboose Family Network, allows children to review new children’s software and learn about computers.
Kids' Space – A collection of international stories, music, and children’s art, for children up to age 13.
Lego.com – Tips and ideas for building with Legos, online games, and movies.
Linkasaurus – An enormous listing of a variety of links to children’s websites.
Meddybemps – Child’s section of site offers online activities to stimulate thinking, express opinions, and learn problem-solving and social skills.
My Hero - Learn about heroes from all walks of life nominated by children from around the world. Children can also nominate their own heroes to be included on the website
National Wildlife Federation - Kids - The National Wildlife Federation website for animal lovers (ages 1 and up) is filled with facts, games, and animal related links.
PuzzleFactory.com – Test your knowledge and practice strategy with word games, jigsaw puzzles, sliders, coloring pages, and memory games. This site has activities for the entire family.
Smithsonian: Kids – Smithsonian Magazine sponsors this site which provides a child friendly interactive tour of the Smithsonian museums.
Stories to Grow By - Whootie the Owl uses fairy tales from around the world to reinforce positive behaviors and teach life skills. Children’s section allows children (ages 6-14) to personalize stories, play games, and print coloring pages and scripts for plays.
TIME for Kids - This kid friendly site offers news, homework help, games, and the TIME for Kids Magazine online with stories separated by grade level.
Yahoo Kids – This site provides games, music, movie clips, jokes, ecards, and a “study zone” with links to dictionaries, encyclopedia, a world fact book, and kid related news.
Yucky Science – This site by Discovery Kids features educational information on “yucky” animals encourages an interest in science.
For Adolescents

APA Help Center – The American Psychological Association’s Help Center website focuses on how to handle problems facing today’s families and maintain loving, healthy relationships.
Apple Seeds – Eclectic collection of quotations and short stories that promote positive attitudes and encourage the development of human dignity. This site has religious overtones.
Center for Adolescent and Family Studies - The Center for Adolescent Studies of Indiana University answers questions about mental health, addictions, violence, acne, and sexuality.
Child Development Institute – The Child Development Institute website features practical suggestions on how to help with socialization, raise self-esteem, teach tolerance, and references the most up to date articles on child development and parenting issues.
Disney family.com – This is the Disney Family website that provides information on children of all ages in relation to food, parenting, traveling with family, crafts and activities, games, books, music, TV shows and movies all in the context of the family.
eSSORTMENT.com - Child Development Information - Easy to use website for quick answers to parenting problems, such as social skills, coping with peer pressure, friendship and how to handle bullies.
Giraffe Heroes Project - The Giraffe Project is a non-profit organization that recognizes people who “stick their neck out” for others with an emphasis on courage, caring, and responsibility.
iVillage - Parenting - A forum where parents can get answers to commonly asked questions about violence, school bullies, cliques, effective discipline, and communicating with your child.
Kid Source OnLine - ADD - Valuable resource for parents desiring to learn more about attention deficit disorder.
Kid Source OnLine - Parenting - Offers knowledge and advice on teaching children not to be victims of bullies, early childhood violence prevention, building self-esteem, and decreasing loneliness in young children.
Meddybemps – Offers a guide for parents to understand how to take an active role in their child’s development with online activities to stimulate thinking, express opinions, and learn problem-solving skills.
NPIN.org – The National Parent Information Network provides information on bullying in schools, helping your child learn responsible behavior, and making friends.
Parenthood.com – Family health, school problems, behavioral issues, and homework help are among the many resource topics available.
Parents' Choice - Valuable resource to help parents locate books appropriate for reading together as a family, teaching children to think critically about the message television sends, and fun games and activities to play as a family.
Safe Child Program - Helps parents identify bullying behaviors, provides steps that you can take if your child is being bullied and what to do if your child is a bully. Safe Child stresses the prevention of bullying.
Stories to Grow By - Whootie the Owl uses fairy tales from around the world to reinforce positive behaviors. Parents can select from 16 character traits and print out a fairy tale with discussion questions. Also has a child’s section, and is very user-friendly.
Words Can Heal - Words Can Heal is a part of a national effort to eliminate verbal violence, curb gossip and promote the healing power of words. Emphasis is placed on how we communicate and the words we speak.

Arthur at PBS Kids - This site is the online companion to the ARTHUR television series on PBS Kids. The website targets kids between the ages of four and eight and supports the same educational goals as the program: literacy and the modeling of positive social and problem-solving skills. There are several activities for children that teach diversity appreciation and understanding, life skills, academic skills, science, health, and social and emotional development.
Disney family.com – This is the Disney Family website that provides information on children of all ages in relation to food, parenting, traveling with family, crafts and activities, games, books, music, TV shows and movies all in the context of the family.
Fun Attic - This site has unique outdoor games, toys for active play, and innovative sporting goods. These games can be used in any school yard or back yard helping children develop coordination, cooperation, and team approaches to problem-solving.
Kaboose - This site by Kaboose, Inc., is very interactive for children and includes crafts, games, and quizzes. Includes separate sites for preschool children, elementary aged children, and teachers and parents.
Kids.com - This site is a resource for kids of all ages and contains activity ideas, puzzles, games, arts and crafts, educational toys, and parenting tips.
Playhouse Disney - This is the Playhouse Disney Just For Educators site that offers teachers and parents of children ages 2-5 a database of activities. These activities help children build academic skills, creativity, self-esteem, a sense of family, ways to express feelings and ideas, ways to help others, and problem solving strategies.
